Adult Skate at SMFSC
Adult Learn to Skate (Beginner – 16+)
This program is designed for adult beginners aged 16 and older.
When you register, you join a fun, supportive program focused on participation, confidence, and basic skill development.
Lessons are led by NCCP-certified professional coaches, sometimes assisted by trained Program Assistants. Coaches focus on proper technique and take time to develop skating fundamentals, including agility, balance, and control.
The small-group format allows skaters to progress at their own pace. Sessions are kept active and engaging through music, teaching aids, and a variety of activities that support learning in a fun environment.
Equipment Requirements:
We recommend all new skaters wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet. Participants must provide their own skates (rentals NOT available). Gloves are also recommended for on-ice safety and protection.
Adult Figure Skating
This program offers skaters the opportunity to develop fundamental figure skating skills, including free skate, skating skills, ice dance, and artistic skating.
Skaters should be able to confidently perform forward and backward inside and outside edges, as well as forward and backward crosscuts. Basic introduction to one-foot 3-turns and two-foot spins is also expected.
Skaters may also choose to participate in Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
