Rowan’s Law (Concussion Safety)

In accordance with Ontario’s Rowan’s Law (July 1, 2019), SMFSC is committed to promoting a safe sport environment through concussion awareness, prevention, and education.

Rowan’s Law is named after Rowan Stringer, an Ottawa high school athlete who passed away in 2013 after sustaining multiple concussions before her brain had fully healed. Her story highlights the importance of recognizing and properly managing concussions.

All skaters must complete a Concussion Acknowledgement Form each season during their initial registration. Skaters may not participate in club programs until this form has been received.

Please Note: Skaters in CanSkate, CanPowerSkate, and Star 1-4 programs are exempt from submitting the Rowan’s Law Acknowledgement Form; however, concussion safety protocols apply to all participants.
