Synchronized skating at Streetsville Meadowvale Skating Club

SMFSC's synchronized skating program for the 2015/16 season -- which consisted of one Juvenile level team skating as Ice Infinity -- has now concluded. We look forward to welcoming at least one Synchro team for the 2016/17 season. Please check back by mid-August for more details.

Our Synchro program is available to skaters in STARSkate -- Pre-Junior, Junior, Intermediate or Senior.

Synchro focuses on edges, power and flow. More than 50% of practice time will be devoted to improving basic stroking – edges and crossovers – plus turns and form. Synchro will improve skating skills – especially Freeskate Skills and Dance. We’ll do all this is a fun and supportive team environment.

Synchro session fees are similar to our PreSTAR sessions: fees include both ice time and coaching fees.

The focus of our Synchro program will be primarily skating development. Our focus for this season will be on improving skating skills and building a strong team environment.

Synchronized Skating in Canada

Synchronized is growing in popularity as a specialized discipline of skating. Groups of 8 or more skaters perform various group formations and maneuvers. The aim is for the team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality recreational and competitive skating.

The challenge for coaches and skaters is the importance of UNISON and the accuracy of maneuvers and formations; the state of being precise, with straight lines, heads facing the same direction, free legs matching and synchronized in time to the music (all skills that benefit a skaters‘ overall development). The combination of creative choreography, appealing music and attractive costumes make synchro a great sport for participants and spectators. A focus on fun, participation, friendly competition and lifetime involvement is responsible for synchronized skating's phenomenal growth

Synchro skaters must maintain their development in other areas of skating (skills, jumps, spins & dance). Skaters will be required to skate a minimum of two (2) STARSkate sessions per week -- either at SMFSC or another Skate Canada-sanctioned club -- and to continue private or group instruction with a Skate Canada professional coach.
